Answers:

Where did this clothing come from? How old is it?

This three-piece men's suit was actually made in America in the 1770s! We don't have information on precisely where this suit was made, but it was somewhere in the American Colonies.

What is it made of? Who would have worn this?

It was hand-sewn out of silk and linen, and has been carefully preserved. It has three parts: the breeches or pants, the waistcoat or vest, and the outer coat. These would be worn over a shirt and stockings.

When was this the fashion? Where did this fashion come from?

American colonial fashion in the 1700s was mostly inspired by English and French fashions, and this suit is typical of the style of the times. It is currently on display as part of our Around the World in 80 Days exhibit — come check it out!
