This is a preserved Papilio bianor janponica, native to Asia. Sometimes referred to as the "Chinese Peacock" butterfly, the Papilio bianor lives in areas with plentiful trees and bushes, such as forests. The adult butterfly lays its eggs in the vegetation, which 10-13 days later hatch into larvae which grow into caterpillars. Three to four weeks later the caterpillar weaves a chrysalis, where it stays for 10 to 20 days, transforming. Then it emerges, and gets busy living its butterfly life!
What does it eat?
The Papilio biano is in the swallowtail family, which in their caterpillar phase eat toxic plants so that they become poisonous to predators. Otherwise, these butterflies feed on nectar and juice from fruits.
