Artifact of the Week: Tahitian Hand-fan

What do you think this is?

Where do you think it was made?

Who would have used it?

Answers:

This is actually a hand fan, made in Tahiti sometime prior to 1934, which is when it was donated to the Karshner Center. Hand fans have been used in many areas of the world since at least the first millennium BC.

Who would have used it?

Since Tahiti has a warm and humid tropical climate, this fan and others like it would have been used by people looking for temporary relief from the weather.
