If you look closely you can probably see that it is made from tree bark, but what kind of tree? If you guessed birch, you're right! There are many subgenera of birch trees, with native subspecies ranging all across North America, Europe, and Asia. As a result, birch bark has been put to many uses in cultures around the world, from canoes to paper to medicine!
Where do you think it was made? What was it used for?
This basket was made in the Yukon, in Canada. Unfortunately the information on who made this basket was not passed on to us, but we do know that it was used for picking berries. It was donated to the Karshner Center in 1962.
