This object is the base of an oil lamp carved from wood. It was made by a modern Alaskan indigenous craftsman in the late 1950s.

Who would have used it?

This piece could have been used by anyone seeking warmth or light in the long Northern winters, and also as a decorative piece. This artifact was donated to the Karshner Center in 1962.
