This is a wooden percussion instrument! It consists of a resonant box-like chamber and a mallet with which to strike the chamber. Each part was made out of ironwood, which is an umbrella-term for trees that often yield harder woods.

Where do you think it was made?

It was made in the Cook Islands, an island country in the South Pacific Ocean. It was donated to the Karshner Center in 1934.
