This is a photo of the Karshners, Dr Warner and his wife Ella. In September of 1930 they founded the Karshner Museum by donating their collection of artifacts, gathered from around the world. In 1924 their son Paul had died of polio as a senior in high school, and in their grief they decided to travel the world. The great museums they visited inspired them to found an educational museum as a legacy in Paul's name, and so not only did they donate their collection to the Puyallup School District, but they continued to travel and enlarge the Museum's collections.

This photo was taken in 1935 while they were on a tour of the South Pacific. This was the same trip that they came upon the flying fox bat that was featured as one of last year's Artifacts of the Week!
