This is a replica of a skull from an Allosaurus. If you guessed Tyrannosaurus Rex, you were very close, but there are some important differences between the two prehistoric animals. For example, the Allosaurus is older, living in the late Jurassic period (about 150 million years ago), while the T-Rex lived during the upper Cretaceous Period (around 65 million years ago). The T-Rex was also larger than the Allosaurus, with shorter arms and longer teeth.
What did it eat?
Allosaurus was a carnivore, feasting on large animals that it hunted. You can tell it ate meat from its long, pointed teeth and its sharp claws.
Where did it live?
Allosaurus fossils have been found in several areas of what is now western North America. Our replica is currently on display in the Science Gallery with other fossils and Natural History artifacts.
