How many kinds of sea stars are there?

How do sea stars move?

Answers:

How many kinds of sea stars are there?

Because starfish are not technically fish, scientists more often call them sea stars. There are over 2,000 different kinds of sea stars! Sea stars are invertebrates, and belong to the echinoderms, which comes from the Greek words "echinos" meaning hedgehog, and "derma" meaning skin. Other echinoderms include sand dollars and sea urchins.

How do sea stars move?

Sea stars have tiny tube-like feet underneath, which they use to move around. This one isn't going anywhere though, because it is on display in the Science Gallery at the Karshner Center!
