What was this used for?

This is a very old fishing lure made for catching Ling Cod. It is made almost entirely of wood, and secured with straps of bark, with string added much later to preserve the delicate ties.

Where was it made?

It was made by Indians of the Malahat Nation, who live on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada.
