Artifact of the Week: Passamaquoddy Basket

Where do you think this basket came from?

What is it made of?

When do you think it was made?

Answers:

Where do you think this basket came from?

This basket was made by the Passamaquoddy Tribe of East Maine, which has continued to craft beautiful baskets like this to this day!

What is it made of?

Both the basket and its lid are made of strips of white ash, the same kind of wood from which baseball bats are made.

When do you think it was made?

While we don't have an exact date on this basket, it was donated to the Karshner Museum in 1930, so it is at least 91 years old.
