What is this? What was it used for? Who would have used it?

This is an antique metal stake eye, donated to the Karshner Center in 1997. It was used by hammering the pointed end of the stake into a tree, and threading a cord or rope through the open eye. This stake eye was used by loggers in the Pacific Northwest in the late 1800s.
