2016-17 School Year
The Puyallup School District is pleased to present the 2016 Culture & Arts Festival series. All festivals are hosted at the Karshner Museum and Center for Culture & Arts, owned and operated by the Puyallup School District.

With a center for culture and arts we wish to enhance cultural awareness and promote cultural competency. We wish to build a culturally responsive learning community through creative educational programs offered for learners of all ages.  To that end, we sponsor five culture and arts festivals each year. These free family events are held on Saturdays throughout the year:

October 8, 2016 – Dia de la Raza
November 19, 2016 – Ancient Art, Modern Moves
January 21, 2017 – Stories of Our Lives
March 11, 2017 – A Gathering of Families
April 1, 2017 – The Celtic Highlands Festival

Dia de la Raza is a family festival of Latino cultures featuring music, dance, and art activities. Listen and dance to live music with Carlos Cascante y su Tumbao, a leading Northwest salsa combo fronted by Carlos Cascante of the Spanish Harlem Orchestra.

Visitors will feel the beat with BALORICO! Professional dance instructor Vanessa will treat audiences to her favorite dance routines and get visitors up and dancing.

Bilingual story telling, arts and crafts for the kids, and the new food truck, South Beach Cuisine and Espresso will make it a fantastic cultural experience.

At the Karshner Museum and Center for Culture and Art we are committed to creating exhibitions and learning experiences which will help visitors make connections between themselves and the world in which we live.
