The Karshner Museum and Center for Culture & Arts is pleased to present The Puyallup River Rock Festival on June 4, 2016. Celebrating the roots of country and rock with critically acclaimed musicians, this family music festival is free!
Music from SweetKiss Momma, Big Wheel Stunt Show, James Coates, and Andy Shofner will rock the crowd and a local food vendor will supply some great southern-style food. In addition to the great music, there will be activities for families. Kids will make their own music instruments and be invited to join a drum and percussion circle. The fun starts at 1:00 p.m. with instrument making. Students can make tissue box guitars, paper plate tambourines, or egg shakers. The music starts at 3:00 p.m. and goes until 8:00 p.m.
SweetKiss Momma is a southern soul & roots rock band who has just returned from a European tour for their new album What You've Got. SweetKiss Momma has racked up a number of accolades including "Top 10 Local Bands in Western Washington" (KING5), and "Best Band" and Best New Album" (Weekly Volcano). Proving that great Southern Rock comes as much from the soul as the place of birth, SweetKiss Momma is from Puyallup, Washington. They have been releasing some of the most critically acclaimed and best selling independent American roots music over the last few years, skillfully blending their gritty Northwest origins with country blues, and gospel, to craft strikingly soulful rock-n-roll with a subtle Southern bend. This headline performing group begings at 6:00 p.m.
Big Wheel Stunt Show has been dazzling rock and roll fans throughout the Puget Sound and all over the world since April or 2009. With three full-length albums, three tours under their belts and multiple appearances in music magazines all over the globe, the Big Wheel Stunt Show is the sort of high caliber rock and roll band you won't forget about any time soon. Described as high enefgy, with furious guitar, heavy drums, hammer bass, and voice that freezes the blood. This performance begins at 5:00 p.m.
James Coates is a notable artist whose music is described as "Soulful Americana." As a singer and song writer, coates weaves elements of Americana, folk, and even soul around songs that sound like they're covered in dirt and dust. Wipe away the dust and you'll find a collection of hopeful tunes sung with passion and abandon. James Coates is from Sumner, Washington and has toured nationally, opening up for major label artists. James's performance begins at 4:00 p.m.
Andy Shofner is also from Sumner. At a very young age Andy picked up an acoustic guitar, learned to play, and breathed his first song. This inspired him to pursue a career in music. Currently, Andy and the band "Colt & The Peacemakers" are reworking a few of their old tunes, and writing new ones in the genre that Andy and the band all love - Outlaw Country and Honky Tonk. Andy's songs and the energy provided by the band capture the voice of the human condition - heartache, love, living, and losing. Andy's performance begins at 3:00 p.m.
